Vast.ai vs RunPod is the argument most renters are already having. NovaPod belongs in it once the question is how you pay and what boots, not which logo is older.
All three can bill a running GPU by the second. That is the overlap. The split is the catalog, the template, and the balance the hour comes out of.
Vast.ai vs RunPod vs NovaPod, as products
Vast.ai is a marketplace of hosts. The reason to use it is a card or a configuration you cannot find on a curated list. You are choosing a machine and a person, and the ask is theirs.
RunPod is the cleaner pair of products: a pod you SSH into, and a serverless endpoint when the job is a request rather than a shell. Payment there is a normal cloud account.
NovaPod is the crypto account. USDT, USDC, SOL, ETH, and BNB fund one balance. vLLM, ComfyUI, PyTorch, and Ollama start from templates. The same GPU can be a container or a root KVM. The clock is the ask, counted per second.
| NovaPod | Vast.ai | RunPod | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Balance | Crypto deposit | Card, crypto options | Card |
| Clock | Per second | Per second | Per second |
| Start | Template or KVM | Host offer | Pod or serverless |
| Odd hardware | The listed book | Very wide | Community cloud |
| Best job | Short runs you can stop | A rare card | An endpoint |
Price advantage without a fake hourly table
I will not type a Vast.ai H100 price or a RunPod 4090 price from memory. Both move. On November 5 the NovaPod H100 SXM floor was $1.21 an hour and the RTX 4090 floor was $0.09. Those numbers are for this book. Check theirs before you call anyone cheapest.
Where NovaPod is cheaper in practice is a job that ends. Per-second billing on a crypto balance means the pod stops with the batch. A cheap Vast.ai host that fails setup can erase the hourly gap. A RunPod serverless worker you forget to scale to zero is its own bill.
Which of the other seven still matter
Lambda and Paperspace are the card-and-account alternatives if your company will not hold crypto. CoreWeave and Crusoe are the contract end of the market. TensorDock is another host market, closer to Vast.ai than to RunPod. Genesis Cloud is the European instance. Spheron is crypto-native and still a different catalog.
If your shortlist is only these three, ignore the other seven until the payment rail or the region forces the question. The rest of the top ten is for a constraint these three do not meet.
Questions about Vast.ai vs RunPod
Is NovaPod a Vast.ai alternative? For a crypto-funded, per-second rental with templates, yes. For the long tail of unusual host hardware, Vast.ai still has the wider shelf. The longer note is the Vast.ai alternative page.
Is NovaPod a RunPod alternative? For a pod you start and stop, yes. For an existing serverless route, stay until the route is the problem. See RunPod alternatives.
Can I move a job between them? The weights can move. The script that assumes one provider's API cannot. Budget a short test, not a rewrite, on the first afternoon.
